God’s Timeline Is Not Our Timeline

The quote by Woody Allen, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans”is very true. We so often make plans and set deadlines for life. I have often found that when I set deadlines, they never quite seem to turn out as planned. Deadlines have come and gone and what I expected to happen by a certain time never seems to happen. I found myself wondering, what am I doing wrong? What am I missing? Why isn’t this happening for me? One simple answer, it is not on God’s timeline just yet.

We think we have failed or have done something wrong because what we set out to accomplish has not happened yet. It’s frustrating and disappointing when it’s happening for every one around us, but not for us. We think we know what is best for us. We think we’re ready for that promotion, that significant other to enter our lives, the unborn child to become our own, but are we? Only God knows what we need and when we need it. We don’t know what His plan is for us or what His timeline looks like for our lives. It’s easy for us to become impatient and frustrated with the circumstances. We have to trust God because He knows. We, as His sheep, must learn to follow the Shepherd with our blind faith.

I try really hard to remember that I’m on God’s Timeline and not my own. If I had been on my own timeline I may have accomplished what I wanted in the amount of time that I had wanted to BUT would I be happy with where I would have ended up? I can confidently say, no I would not have been happy. In fact, I probably would be miserable. God saved me from what would have been a lifetime of unhappiness. That’s why it’s so important to live on God’s timeline. We think we know what is best for us at any particular moment. We may be correct in knowing what’s best for us, it just not the right time for it to happen for us. His timing is never late and never early but right on time. He can open doors at the right moment, that no human could ever close. I just pray that I’m wise enough to know when God’s timing has arrived and that my hopes, prayers and dreams that I have longed for, finally come to fruition.
