Food For Thought

There is so much negativity in the world today. It’s not only negativity but there is so much sadness and fear caused by hurtful words, actions and thoughts. The amount of pain, angst, fear, and frustration seems to be the norm these days. What does that say about the world we live in?

When did the world turn so bitter and hateful? When did we begin to mourn material things and fail to mourn relationships and human interaction? When did it become “okay” to bully others and degrade others for the betterment of ourselves? When did it become “okay” to humiliate others in order to exercise power? When did it become “okay” to spew out whatever that enters out minds without having to censor it? When did it become “okay” to hurt others and take no responsibility for our own actions? When did the evil in this world begin to overtake the good?

It’s astonishing to me that society has turned so callus, while horrible behavior has become more acceptable. In the diverse society we live in, it should be that we are more accepting and respectful of each other. We don’t have to like everyone we meet but we should at least be respectful of our differences. The vulgar behavior of some people is appalling to me. It makes me sad that this is what we are teaching our future generations is okay and acceptable.

God wants us to help others and treat them the way that we want to be treated. It’s the golden rule for goodness sakes. Why is it that we tend to forget the most important rule? Do we really forget the rule or do we make the choice not to follow it?

There is no question that we are living in a time where there is a lot of angst. Generations before us, and generations after us will be faced with challenging times but why do we choose not to learn from these times?

We should be wiser and more accepting but we act immature, arrogant and frankly flippant. We only worry about ourselves and our own well being and everyone else can fend for themselves. In our own selfish eyes, we only want what’s best for ourselves without a concern or worry for others. We really should take a five minute break and examine our own behavior, our own words and the thoughts we think that lead to the words and actions we use. If we really took the time to examine our thoughts honestly maybe we can figure out why our thoughts are leading to such hurtful and destructible words and actions.

The problem is, is that the people that really need to take the time and be brutally honest about their thoughts won’t take the time to do so because they believe that they are perfect; that there is nothing to examine or change. That’s part of the problem. How can we change the ugliness in this world if we can’t be honest with ourselves?

We need to change ourselves before we can expect to change the world. We need to learn from our past and present mistakes so that we don’t repeat them in the future with the future generations. Let us be the example that we want the world to see and the way we would like to see the world behave.
